| Treatments OfferedOzoneIdeal for children and anxious patientsWhat is ozone and how does it work?
Ozone is a form of the gas oxygen. It permeates carious enamel and dentine Ozone deactivates 99% of all bacteria Almost all the acid produced by the bacteria is thereby neutralized A special reduction fluid neutralizes the remaining acid and adds minerals and fluoride It is now a neutral medium enriched with minerals Minerals continue to be added by regular use of Patient Kit Complete remineralisation takes between 4 and 12 weeks Alternative: sealing Advantages of ozone
Quick treatment times – approximately 20 seconds per tooth No anaesthetic, minimal or no preparation and no pain No side effects following treatment Considerably reduces the need for fillings Maximum retention of healthy tooth substance The treated tooth is more resistant to caries attacks Minimally invasive Ideal for nervous patients ApplicationWith the use of a small laser called the Diagnodent we can look at the surface of your teeth to identify caries. This gives us an accurate reading to let us know how much decay is present. A special handpiece with a soft plastic cup is then used to apply ozone onto the decayed area. It is short, simple and painless. Uses of ozone
Pit and fissure caries Disinfection of root canals Soft tissue problems including ulcers and cold sores Gum problems Sensitivity Chairside tooth whitening
In some cases ozone can be used in conjunction with other treatments, especially for larger cavities where lesions are close to the nerve and may be opened by drilling prior to ozone application. In deep cavities where there is a risk of nerve exposure leading to root canal therapy, more softened dentine can be left and disinfected with ozone making nerve involvement less likely. | |
